Two Musicians

"Auf welches Instrument sind wir gespannt?"
--Ranier Maria Rilke

There was your voice and a note
that sang inside and filled me.
When I smiled, I heard it booming
in the echo of your eyes.
There was music that night.

Later, when we were lost in arms,
we thrummed the clever harmonies
that deft hands had crafted
into the instrument that we shared.

We played and sang beautifully
like two strings on some invisible guitar.

Rock and Roll is my Woman

Rock’n’roll is my woman.
I just want you to know.
Rock’n’roll is my woman
and my guitar is her soul.

I cry when she cries.
I die when she dies.
But then we make love.

You can make me love you
and it won’t take long.
You can make me love you,
if you sing the right song.

I cry when she cries.
I die when she dies.
But then we make love.

When I Started To Write This Song

When I started to write this song
it was a love song for you
but I ran out of love
before it was through.

I don't know how we went so very wrong
Things started out nice when I started this song.
Somewhere along the line my feelings changed
now I don't know what to do.

I remember at the start of this song
we were hot as fire.
Something happened, I ran out of desire
and now it's gone as cold as ice
and I don't know what is right -- what is right

Somewhere we went wrong, couldn't find our way.
Somewhere along the line the feelings changed.
I remember telling you how I felt
I almost fell to the ground…knelt.

I worshiped you, the way you walked.
I worshiped you and what you taught.
Something put out my fire
now my heart is cold as ice.
There's no desire, there's no more fire.
